About The Play

"Stars hide your fires: Let not light see my black and deep desires"

Devil You Know Theatre Company presents the world premiere of a thrilling new version of Shakespeare's Macbeth set in a post apocalyptic Britain 100 years in the future and staged in Peckham's iconic Bussey Building. This thrilling new version of one of Shakespeare's most famous tragedies, charts the bloody rise and downfall of the legendary warrior Macbeth.

Set in a future dystopian world after a global nuclear apocalypse where civilisation and technology has been obliterated. Life has restarted but society and humanity have reverted. Survivors have forged weapons and primitive forts from scavenging what is left and face a daily fight for survival.

This brutal landscape presents an evocative setting for one of Shakespeare's most violent and chillingly evil plays.

CRITICS CHOICE - 1 of the Top 4 London fringe theatre shows to see this week.
Theatre.London

"an enthralling & intriguingly atmospheric version that ably captures a society in disturbing despair”
ActDrop

“rises to a wonderful crescendo to Macbeth’s slow descent into a blood-thirsty, maddening rage”
The Spy in the Stalls

"visceral and powerfully compelling - a thrilling, dark and ferocious Macbeth"
Stage Review

"fierce, energetic, I felt I was in the middle of a epic war with only 6 actors actually fighting on stage…The main pair - Macbeth and his Lady - were just made for the part”
Rewrite this Story

“Sadie Pepperrell's Lady Macbeth never wavers. Her performance is steely, beguiling and deeply unsettling”
The Stage

“Henry Proffit's laudable Macbeth is obviously an intelligent fighter and survivor, but just beneath the surface of what appears a fairly normal exterior lies something murkily odd and unnerving, perhaps psychopathic, probably deranged.”
ActDrop

“Henry Proffit cuts a paranoid figure as Macbeth: his unease is as much a driver of bloody deeds as his unfettered ambition.”
The Stage

“Jared Fortune shines as the valiant Macduff".

The Bussey Building

The Royal Court built the theatre and had a residency at the Bussey Building staging highly successful shows including 'The Westbridge' by Rachel De-lahay.

'This thrilling debut play by Rachel De-lahay plugs straight into the jittery heart of multicultural London today. And it receives a cracking production in the Bussey Building in Peckham Rye' - Charles Spencer *4 The Telegraph 'The Westbridge'

Since the Royal Court's residency various award winning shows including 'Othello Peckham' have been staged at the theatre to sell out audiences. Works at the theatre have varied from the up and coming to established writers, producers and directors.

Devil You Know Theatre looks to continue this exciting trend by bringing a thrilling re-telling of Shakespeare's only thriller to the Bussey Building.
